Questions for men about abuse

  • If you can answer yes to some or all of these questions...

  • Is your partner sometimes afraid of you?

  • Do you make most of the decisions in your relationship?

  • Do you always need to know where your partner is?

  • Have you ever threatened your partner?

  • Do you ever call your partner names or degrade your partner?

  • Have you ever physically intimidated your partner?

  • Do you ever intentionally harm or break things that are important to your partner?

  • Do you ever throw things or hit the wall during an argument?

  • Have you ever hit, slapped, grabbed or pushed your partner?

  • Do you think that sometimes your partner deserves to be hit?

  • Have you ever been afraid to tell someone about your abuse?

  • Do you blame your abuse on alcohol, stress or family problems?

If you answered yes to some or all

If you answered yes to some or all of these questions, you have taken the first step in acknowledging your abusive behaviours towards your partner.

Once a man begins to use abusive behaviours towards his partner, he has a problem that won't go away - and that will only get worse.

Abusive men come from all parts of our society and from all incomes, occupations, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Denying or minimizing your abuse will put you and your family in danger of escalating violence that may lead to serious injury - or even death.

Help is available!

Even with the best of intentions it is difficult to change violent or abusive behaviours without help.

Take the first step for your family and yourself by contacting:

  • your local Family Services Counselling centre.

  • a treatment program for men who abuse their partners.

  • a local distress centre or crisis line.

There are many explanations for abuse... but there are no excuses!

Please don't hesitate. Contact us today.
