International Women's Day 2008
Greetings friends and supporters of the White Ribbon Campaign
As you may know, March 8th was named International Women’s Day (IWD) by the United Nations in 1975. Since then, it’s been recognized all over the world as a day to honour our wives, mothers, sisters, friends and colleagues. A day for women to connect, to celebrate and to be inspired by their achievements. In some places, IWD has even become an official holiday.
We’ve noticed that March is also a month when many people in the United States become particularly interested in the White Ribbon Campaign, not only to learn more about what we do, but to put on campaigns of their own.
As a campaign that relies on the grassroots efforts of individuals and organizations to spread the word, we encourage you to inform us about any campaigns occurring in your community.
If you would like to start a campaign of your own, please visit our website for everything you need to know about the campaign and how to get started. You can also sign our guest book and ‘virtual poster’ as a commitment to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls.
You can order education materials, ribbons and posters from our secure online store as well.
And as always, our staff is on hand to answer any questions or comments you may have.
More information, including some great videos, can be found at the official web page of IWD as well as the UN’s IWD page.
I would encourage you to regularly visit our Blog Ourfuturehasnoviolenceagainstwomen.blogspot.com for updates and information on IWD events around the globe.
Talk to young people, challenge your peers, spread the message, talk to politicians, organize an event, share your stories with us, make a financial contribution to a women’s shelter, a crisis line, or to a support program for women who have been victims of
violence.
Until the violence stops,
Todd Minerson, Executive Director
White Ribbon Campaign
